Te Waikoropupu Springs Reserve Upgrade

In 2013, the Department of Conservation committed to the upgrade of the sacred and very beautiful Te Waikoropupu Scenic Reserve, one of Golden Bays most popular tourist attractions. This included a new entranceway/information centre, revamping of tracks to all–season, disability-friendly board walking, new viewing platform, and car park upgrade. The majority of the building works were undertaken by Frank Byrne - Builders in stages throughout 2013.

The entranceway⁄information centre ready for the dawn opening ceremony in conjunction with local DOC and Manawhenua Ki Mohua Iwi on 22nd April 2013. (Carvings were commissioned by DOC and Iwi, and designed and carved by Tim Wraight, Motueka). Following the entranceway⁄information centre completion, the task of building approximately 300 metres of new boardwalk during the winter months was not without its challenges but was successfully completed in stages, including a new viewing platform over the main Spring by November 2013, ready for the new tourist season.
