Wainui Falls Track Bridge Replacement

In 2017, a large rockfall on the popular Wainui Falls track resulted in one of the new walking bridges being taken out of action with major damage to the structure.  Frank Byrne Builders were contracted by the Dept. of Conservation to rebuild the structure.  Several of the large level beams had been severely damaged, along with the cross treads & handrails.  The bridge was completely deconstructed & then rebuilt using some of the undamaged original structure which was only two years old and replacing materials that were beyond repair.

Prior to re-installation, the site was prepared, securing the rock face above the bridge area.  The new bridge structure was then returned to Wainui Bay & with the aid of Garden City Helicopters, was lifted back into place & readied for the reopening of this popular walkway in October 2017.
